Day 1: Wandering around the city

Tony and I had quite a busy day on Thursday (yesterday)! We woke up bright and early at 8 to go to the front desk. We didn’t have a printout of our hotel confirmation info (rookie move) so Tony had to dig thru his email to find and forward that to the hotel, so we had to check with the front counter to make sure everything was in order. I had seen on TripAdvisor that the hotel offers an upgrade to bed and breakfast, so we asked about that and for only €84 for the whole week we get buffet breakfast! We also have a little kitchenette in our room but its nice to not have to worry about cooking your own food right away in the morning!

So after breakfast we made trip 1 down into town (~1.2 km), then wandered a ton from there! We walked down to the Mediterranean Sea, along and in it, to the end of the city port, past a ton of shops and hotels and restaurants getting ready for tourist season (starts in about a week or two), then ventured back up the road to our hotel. {Will insert pics later} We also passed school kids on our way back up, must have been on lunch break? A bunch of really loud ones passed us and one kid gestured to his buddies and said ‘is crazy’ and got a big kick out of me and Tony laughing!

After we got back to the hotel we went for a swim. Tony was the first all the way in the pool all year! To be fair I was the first to get knee deep. :p The hotel manager came and took a picture and asked if he could put it on the hotel’s Facebook page! Then we rinsed off, got dressed, and headed to town again!

We had forgotten to get groceries in our first trip so we loaded up this time. We got sandwich stuff, some treats, chips, water, kiwis (which are huge), and some drinks. Tony got instant espresso and some tiny spoons and a cup. Then we stopped at the bakery and got some fresh bread and a really yummy Oreo cheesecake piece! That didn’t make it home because it looked so good. πŸ™‚ We had seen an orange truck (i.e. a truck carrying oranges to sell, not a truck painted orange) so we got some nice fresh oranges, mandarins, and grapefruit. We headed back loaded down with the spoils of our shopping excursion and had a relaxed afternoon. We headed back out again after a late lunch, but I’ll cover that in another post! πŸ˜‰
